BEDFORD, N.H. —

A fire at 1750 Taphouse restaurant in Bedford caused heavy smoke and forced the closure of a portion of Route 101.

Fire officials said they were called to the restaurant at about 1:30 p.m. on a report of a fire. When firefighters arrived, they saw flames and heavy smoke coming from the building.

The fire went to a second alarm, and firefighters from Manchester, Amherst, Merrimack, New Boston and Londonderry arrived to help.

The Bedford School Department sent a notice to parents that Nashua Road from Route 101 to County Road was closed because of the fire, but all children and school buildings were safe.
