It has been more than a year since tornadoes tore through a community in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, damaging multiple homes. Now, the family of 80-year-old Nick Fiorentino is sharing their long and emotional recovery journey after flying debris struck him in the head during the storm.

Mary Belmonte says she remembers that October day during Hurricane Milton like it was yesterday. She says her husband Nick Fiorentino had been outside filming the storm when the wind suddenly shifted and the tornado came directly toward their home. She ran to take cover in the bathroom, and when the roaring stopped, she walked out and couldn’t find him.

“So when I came out, I didn’t see him because he was on the ground out here bleeding profusely,” she said.
