BENNINGTON — A convicted habitual offender most recently charged with domestic assault in 2022, while already out on probation for a prior domestic assault charge in 2015, was released on supervision Tuesday following his sentencing hearing.
George Murphy, 54, was already out on furlough on a domestic assault dating back to 2015 when he re-offended again in 2022 by choking his domestic partner.
In a Bennington courtroom Tuesday morning, Murphy, who pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aggravated domestic assault, was officially sentenced after a plea deal was reached earlier this year. Murphy was sentenced, according to Department of Corrections calculations, to 166 days to 20 years behind bars.
