Richard Branson, the billionaire founder of Virgin Galactic, has announced the tragic news that his partner of 50 years , Joan Templeman, died on November 25, 2025. The 70-year-old paid an emotional tribute to her on Instagram this evening, writing: “She was my best friend, my rock, my guiding light, my world. Love you forever Joan x.”

Tributes have been pouring in for Joan, who has died aged 80, as well as condolences to Richard and his family. Joan hailed from Glasgow, in Scotland, and was the daughter of a ship carpenter who worked hard to support her and her six siblings. One of her jobs included running an antiques shop, and she married her childhood sweetheart, Ronnie Leahy, in 1966. However, they divorced 12 years later when Richard came into her life.
