GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Police confiscated a handgun after a group of teens attempted to rob a person in downtown Grand Rapids following the Nov. 22 Santa Parade.

Grand Rapids police said a 19-year-old had the weapon, which had an extended magazine capable of holding 26 rounds.

Police did not say if the gun was loaded.

Officers found the gun after a group of teens, ages 14 to 19, tried to rob an individual. Police were in the area and able to make arrests.

They found the handgun while making those arrests.

Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstom said it was fortunate that numerous officers were downtown.
