The minister responsible says the provincial government needs to resurrect a Violence Prevention Action Plan.

The minister of women and gender equality, Helen Conway Ottenheimer, told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that the plan, which was in place from 2015 to 2019, was allowed to lapse.

“It is very important that we have a plan in place. We have to have evidence and research as a foundation for any policies that we implement.”

She believes that without a plan, they’re not able to effectively tackle the problem of gender-based violence.

Today marked the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.
