PORTLAND, Ore. — On Tuesday, Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield joined three state district attorneys in sending a strongly worded cease and desist letter to the Trump administration, demanding that the departments of Justice and Homeland Security "immediately halt unlawful and reckless actions" by federal officers in the state.

The letter accuses federal officers of striking Portland police with less-lethal munitions, endangering residents and law enforcement with tear gas deployments, stopping teenagers at gunpoint in Hillsboro , arresting a 17-year-old McMinnville High School student and repeatedly using "disproportionate and unjustified force" against non-violent protestors .

In response, Rayfield and the other attorneys sent a formal notice that they are "actively monitor
