HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — Thanksgiving and the following weekend tend to be busy times at emergency departments and doctors ' offices. At Holland Hospital, its team sees an increase in patient volumes on the Friday and Monday after the holiday.
Dr. Ada Pariser, a family physician with Holland Hospital Primary Care in Hudsonville, gave us five tips to stay safe and healthy this holiday weekend.
Avoid cuts and burns.
"If you have something hot on the stovetop, we want you to stay at the stovetop, attending to that pan or that pot," said Pariser.
Kitchen safety is important to keep in mind, especially for those cooking the holiday meal if they do not typically cook, or if they are distracted by family.
Make sure knives are sharp and cutting boards do not slip.
