LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is intervening in a rate increase request for natural gas customers from DTE.

DTE filed an application to increase its rates by an estimated 9.83% for all of its customers, and 7.81% for residential customers.

The utility company is hoping to increase its revenue by $237.5 million annually, to offset a total revenue deficiency of $237.5 million projected for the 12 months leading up to Sept. 30, 2027, according to its application.

A day after the application filing, Nessel said she intends to intervene in the case.

“If recent history tells us anything, it’s that this new rate hike request will be filled with costs that simply cannot be justified,” Nessel said. “Time and again, we’ve seen DTE try to pass on to its customers millions
