SAN DIEGO — The Department of Transportation is launching a new civility campaign urging airline passengers to demonstrate "courtesy and class" during flights, including thanking airline staff and dressing respectfully, as the holiday travel season officially gets underway. The campaign aims to reverse a troubling trend of in-flight incidents that reached record levels during the pandemic.

Since 2019, the Federal Aviation Administration has recorded a 400 percent increase in disruptive in-flight behavior, ranging from minor outbursts to outright violence. More than 13,800 unruly passenger incidents have been reported since 2021.
