WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Kristal Pena received a Citizen Life Saving Award from the Abilene Police on Tuesday for performing life-saving action earlier this month.
The Abilene Police Department said Pena saw a 10-year-old in distress at a bus stop on Nov. 10. Pena said the child looked like they were struggling to breathe and likely was choking on food.
Pena immediately started to perform the Heimlich maneuver on the child. She was able to get a piece of food out of the child that they had been choking on.
Abilene Police said Pena’s quick actions directly helped the positive outcome of the situation.
