A violinist with the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra has been chosen as the organization’s executive director.

Alana Carithers has been part of the WSO’s violin section since 2005 and has served as principal second violin for the past decade. Her appointment, announced Nov. 20, follows a three-month period as interim executive director following the departure of Carolyn Keurajian.

The WSO sought an executive director who reflected its core values of integrity, community and collaboration, said John Krapfl, chair of WSO’s board of trustees, in a news release. Carithers brings more than 20 years of leadership in nonprofit and arts organizations around the country to her new position.
