Preparing a holiday feast can be stressful, but it can also be downright dangerous if steps aren’t taken to prevent an inferno like the one Dover firefighters created on a stovetop to illustrate the do's and don’ts in the kitchen.
During a demonstration Tuesday at a Dover Fire and Rescue training facility, firefighters showed just what can happen when water is thrown on a cooking oil fire, and the results were dramatic. A massive fireball erupted immediately after water was poured onto the small fire that was initially contained in a pot on the stove.
New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey said a cooking fire can quickly consume the kitchen and turn a happy holiday season into a tragic one.
