Monday night’s game ended with a very low blow.
Carolina Panthers safety Tre’Von Moehrig has been suspended for one game without pay after punching San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings in the groin area, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Tuesday.
Moehrig’s punch led to a brief post-game altercation, with Jennings shoving him.
This is a tough blow for the Panthers, who are losing their starting safety just as they are looking to make their first playoff push since 2017.
On the season, the 26-year-old safety has 81 tackles and an interception.
Moehrig plans to appeal his one-game suspension. The appeal will be heard by either Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson.
He will be eligible to return to the Panthers’ active roster next Monday.
