A Bergen County man was charged after police said a Facebook Marketplace transaction turned into an attempted robbery and assault earlier this month.
On Thursday, Nov. 6, the Saddle Brook Police Department responded to reports of a physical altercation in the parking lot of a business on Route 46 west, Police Chief John A. Zotollo, Jr. said.
A male victim met with Marten M. Mosiej, 22, of Hillsdale, in the parking lot of a business to "engage in a transaction of computer accessories" that originated on Facebook Marketplace, the chief said.
That's when Mosiej assaulted the victim and tried to steal his cash during the assault, police said.
A follow-up investigation by the Saddle Brook Detective Bureau led to Mosiej’s arrest, the release said. He was charged with second-degree criminal attempt to commit robbery, third-degree aggravated assault, and one count of criminal mischief, which is a disorderly persons offense.
Police said an arrest warrant was issued, and once taken into custody, Mosiej will be remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
Records show Mosiej was arrested last June for violating a protective order. He has also racked up multiple traffic offenses since 2023.
