ANN ARBOR, MI - For 7-year-old Airi Tribo, two things were exciting about Tuesday.

“I got hot chocolate, and I’m getting adopted,” she said.

Airi was one of three children adopted before Washtenaw County Court Judge Arianne Slay on Nov. 25 during National Adoption Day, an open-doors set of adoption hearings meant to raise awareness about adoption and children in foster care.

This is the first Adoption Day hosted at the Washtenaw County Courthouse since 2019. COVID-19 precautions stopped the practice in 2020, and it took until Tuesday to hold another one.

Adopting families had a chance to mingle with friends and family, do crafts, munch on sweets and visit with an inflated SpongeBob Squarepants.
