DEXTER TWP., MI — A person killed early Tuesday when a car crashed and caught on fire has been identified.

A 59-year-old Howell woman was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle that crashed around 5:15 a.m. Nov. 25 near North Territorial and Madden roads in Dexter Township, confirmed Cmdr. Eugene Rush of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

Fire crews had been called to the scene for a report of a car on fire on the side of the road, said Doug Armstrong, chief of the Dexter Area Fire Department. Crews arrived to find what appeared to be a single-car crash, Armstrong said. The vehicle had run off the road and into multiple trees.

Rush declined to release the woman’s name.

The area was closed for several hours after the crash.
