TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A Tucson nonprofit is working to increase college enrollment among students of color through campus tours of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Less than half of Arizona high schoolers enroll in college, and that rate is even lower for black students. Research shows when students visit campuses, they’re more likely to attend.
Tucson Educational Empowerment for Minorities, or TEEM , helps students raise money to tour historically Black colleges and universities. Since 2004, the organization has helped around 500 students of color explore college campuses.
