MUSKEGON, Mich. — Nearly a year after she was convicted of torturing and killing her son, Shanda Vander Ark is arguing that the attorney who represented her in that trial was ineffective.

On Tuesday, a Ginther hearing was first delayed because she and her attorney argued she was not well enough for the case to begin. But eventually, it was ruled she was, and the trial was full of the judge, her new attorney and the prosecution asking her former attorney, Fred Johnson, about the case.

Some of the questions revolved around whether Vander Ark had proclaimed her innocence or guilt in the case.
