WALLACE, N.C. (WITN) - More than 100 families received Thanksgiving meals Tuesday morning during a food giveaway that drew lines of cars in Wallace.

Held by the Mt. Calvary Center for Leadership Development, the event started at 11 a.m., but people had been waiting since before 8 a.m. to receive Thanksgiving ingredients.

“I got this big, gorgeous turkey, canned goods, and baking stuff. I can’t cook, but I’m gonna learn this week,” said Myrana Johnson, a Willard resident who lined up after 10 a.m.

Cars wrapped around the building and onto nearby streets as volunteers distributed food from two truckloads of supplies. The demand was so high that all food was gone by 11:30 a.m., making the giveaway last less than 30 minutes.
