Sarnia is one step closer to a spending plan for 2026.
City council met Tuesday morning and made some amendments to Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley’s draft budget.

How much is the city portion of taxes going up?
That hasn’t been finalized, yet.
Bradley has strong mayor powers. They’re part of an agreement with the province made in 2023 that included targets for yearly home starts, and the promise of provincial cash for meeting quotas.
Council, before 2023, set the budget as a group, based on staff recommendations.
Now Bradley works with staff and makes his proposals. Council then makes amendments. That’s what happened Tuesday.
Bradley can still veto council amendments within 10 days. Council can override any vetoes with a two-thirds vote 15 days after said vetoes.
