The Thames Talbot Land Trust is launching a fundraising campaign to collect $10 million to buy 600 hectares of land in Southwestern Ontario – an effort that’s already well over half-way there.

The Nature Nearby campaign, launched Monday, has quietly raised $6.5 million over the last two years, all part of an effort that’s already added 220 hectares (543 acres) to its holdings.

“We’re really looking at what we’re seeing happening in the growth of the community, whether that’s urban expansion or economic growth,” said Daria Koscinski, executive director of the Thames Talbot Land Trust.

“One of the things we wanted to make sure of is that as the community grows, we’re also growing conservation work and green spaces and protecting farmland.”
