A 20-year-old medicine student plunged over 500ft to his death after he called his family to tell them he was lost on Snowdon, an inquest has heard. John Aravinth had been climbing the summit when wind speeds reached up to 78mph, causing the weather to become "beyond atrocious".

Mr Aravinth, of College Road, Southwater, Horsham, West Sussex, was a student at Edinburgh University when he and his family walked along the Llanberis Path up Snowdon in May.

However, the weather and visibility was poor and Mr Aravinth's father and sister decided to turn back because they thought it was too dangerous to continue. For the biggest stories in Wales first, sign up to our daily newsletter here.
