SPOKANE COUNTY — Wildlife officials confirmed another case of chronic wasting disease in a Spokane County white-tailed deer, marking the sixth confirmed case in Washington state.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife received positive test results for an adult male deer in Game Management Unit 124 in north Spokane County, near where three cases were confirmed last year.
Five of the six total cases have been detected in 2024. The Spokane Tribe awaits secondary test results on a deer from the Spokane Reservation.
Chronic wasting disease is fatal to deer, elk and moose. The disease spreads through direct contact and contaminated environments.
All elk, deer and moose harvested in Eastern Washington must be tested for CWD. Hunters traveling with animals to other parts of the state
