ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WAFB) - A man is accused of fraudulently receiving more than $78,000 in emergency rental assistance.
According to Louisiana State Attorney General Liz Murrill’s office, Brandon Brown, of Prairieville, is charged with felony theft by fraud.
The AG’s investigation into Brown started after information came in from the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office about allegations of fraud within a state administered program. According to authorities, auditors found fraud in the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, which is administered through the Louisiana Division of Administration’s Office of Community Development.
Officials said the Emergency Rental Assistance Program provided help to renters facing financial struggles related toCOVID-19. According to the AG’s office,
