A 70-year-old Toronto man has been charged after Ontario Provincial Police allege he claimed a $1-million lottery prize on his own instead of as a group win.

The OPP said, on July 2, an individual claimed a Lotto Max Free Play ticket with Encore as a sole claimant and received his lottery prize from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) .

However, police said the OLG Forensic Investigation Unit received and reviewed claims suggesting the winnings may have resulted from an arrangement involving a group .

The case was referred to the OPP Investigation and Enforcement Bureau (IEB), which works in tandem with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
