JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Duval County (DOH-Duval) has issued a rabies advisory in the county after a raccoon was located with the disease.
DOH-Duval says that a single-confirmed case of rabies was found in a raccoon killed in the area of Foxhaven Drive on Monday, Nov. 24.
The department says that they will continue monitoring wild animals in the area, but encourages residents to take the following precautions:
Immunize pets recommended schedule from veterinarian.
Keep pets under direct supervision and on a leash, and keep livestock secured on your property.
If an animal bites your pet or livestock, seek veterinary assistance for the animal immediately and contact Animal Care and Protective Services at 904-630-CITY.
