SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Unity Gardens and Cultivate Food Rescue distributed 175 Thanksgiving meal packages on Tuesday, each designed to feed a family of six.
The meal bags included aluminum tins of turkey, mashed potatoes and green beans, along with pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce and bread rolls.
“People are really grateful. It’s an act of joy and sharing to be able to be here and see all these families who would’ve had to, and stress over providing this meal or just not celebrate the holiday in general,” said Selina Alcantar, youth program and events coordinator for Unity Gardens.
Unity Gardens operates sharing fridges and shelves daily with food available for the community.
