BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Common Council passed a resolution on Tuesday that will allow them to amend the city charter in order to hire a legislative counsel.

This comes after the 3-way dance, so to speak, between the administration, council, and Comptroller's office over the bond issue.

The Scanlon administration and Common Council were forced to hire outside legal counsel in order to take the city Comptroller to court after her refusal to go to the bond market for the 2025 capital budget.

"We had one lawyer advising the mayor, the council and the Comptroller, and that's landed us well over by $25,000 worth of legal bills because we had one person advising three branches," Council member Mitch Nowakowski said. "So conflict is going to be inherent."
