UPDATE: A Meigs County grand jury has indicted a Decatur man in a July shooting that killed 46-year-old Jason Paul Burnette, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).
TBI agents began investigating on July 6 at the request of 9th Judicial District Attorney General Russell Johnson, joining Meigs County deputies at a home in the 700 block of Peakland Road, where Burnette was found shot to death.
During the investigation, authorities identified 45-year-old Chad Mitchell Lankford as the suspect. The grand jury returned an indictment on Nov. 24 charging Lankford with one count of first-degree murder.
He was arrested Tuesday, November 25, and booked into the Meigs County Jail on a $1 million bond.
