As expected, Michigan finds itself on the outside looking in when it comes to the College Football Playoff field with one game remaining.

The Wolverines moved up three spots in this week’s ranking, to No. 15, following a 45-20 win at Maryland over the weekend. The victory improved Michigan to 9-2 on the season and 7-1 in the Big Ten, setting the stage for a pivotal regular-season finale this weekend in Ann Arbor.

A win over Ohio State on Saturday (12 p.m., FOX) could be enough to move the needle and convince the selection committee to let the Wolverines in. A victory and some help, in the form of an Indiana loss or Oregon loss, would also send Michigan to the Big Ten title game, potentially helping its case with the committee.
