The body of a man who had been missing after the vehicle he was driving was swept away into floodwaters was found in northern Maricopa County, authorities confirmed Nov. 25.

"The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has recovered the body of 53-year-old Christopher Couch," MCSO officials posted on the department's Facebook account .

Couch's body was found more than a mile downstream from where his vehicle was last seen in the Agua Fria River near Table Mesa and Interstate 17. Sheriff's officials said 911 dispatchers received a call about 10 a.m. Nov. 23 reporting that a vehicle was swept away in the river.

A sheriff's helicopter team hoisted to safety a woman who had been inside the vehicle with Couch. However, Couch was swept away.
