EVERY TWO weeks, 84-year-old Robert Presby of Sanbornton takes a road trip. It’s a recurring labor of love.
For the past 10 years, the retired telephone lineman and carpenter, who runs the First Fruits Pantry at Mountain View Church in Sanbornton, makes the 92-mile round trip to the New Hampshire Food Bank in Manchester, where he collects fresh produce, frozen meat and other staples to stock the pantry’s shelves.
Other than driving a smidgeon below the speed limit, he shows no signs of slowing down.
“Retirement? What’s retirement?” Presby said, steering his pickup onto I-93-south, for the journey he knows by heart. Rain, sleet, accidents, snow — he allows 70 minutes just in case.
