OMAHA, Neb. —
After failing to override a mayor's veto a year ago, the Omaha City Council is trying again to pass an update to the city's electrical code.
Then-Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert cited unnecessary regulations increasing construction costs in her November 2024 veto.
Tuesday, homebuilders lined up in opposition for the same reason.
Omaha City Council President Danny Begley's proposal would have the city adopt the entire 2023 National Electrical Code, including pieces of it that the Nebraska Legislature does not require.
"We can have safe, affordable housing with the measures here today," Begley said.
