AFTON — A multi-year investigation recently wrapped up in Lincoln County on Sept. 24 when Rodney Gilstrap of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was sentenced on multiple wildlife-related charges following an appeal filed in August 2024.

The charges stemmed from Gilstrap falsely claiming to be a Wyoming resident beginning in 2018 and then illegally killing deer, elk, and pronghorn in western Wyoming.

Afton Game Warden James Hobbs began this investigation in 2019 after receiving anonymous tips from the public that Gilstrap was claiming to be a Wyoming resident for the purpose of obtaining resident hunting licenses but was living and working in Idaho Falls.
