COLUMBUS, Ohio—Former Cincinnati City Councilman PG Sittenfeld on Monday indicated he’s willing to drop his push for the U.S. Supreme Court to rewrite decades-old legal precedent for what constitutes political bribery in America.
But, Sittenfeld’s lawyers stated in a brief, only if the Supreme Court explicitly orders a lower court to vacate his 2023 conviction on corruption charges.
The Supreme Court announced Tuesday that the court’s nine justices will convene in private on Dec. 12 to discuss what to do about Sittenfeld’s appeal over his conviction of bribery and attempted extortion. The charges against the Democrat stemmed from his acceptance of $20,000 from undercover FBI agents in exchange for lining up votes for a Cincinnati development project.
