As businesses across Ohio increasingly move toward digital-only payment systems, state lawmakers are pushing back with legislation that would require them to accept good old-fashioned cash.

The Today in Ohio podcast team discussed whether cash – the official legal tender of the United States – should always be welcomed by merchants, especially from people who abhor the idea of their electronic transactions leaving a trail that could be bought and sold. With cash, buyers have come privace.

A proposed law— officially titled the Currency Access to Spend Here (CASH) Act —would keep cash in play. Laura Johnston explained the basics: “Businesses and government offices have to accept cash for $500 or less worth of purchases.”
