A nationwide survey has found that the cost of preparing a Thanksgiving dinner with traditional staples has gone down for the third consecutive year.
“Fifty dollars on this is a lot,” Shira Howard of Throggs Neck said as she picked up a frozen turkey at a supermarket near her home. “This one is 51, just for a turkey, so imagine you were buying this and other trimmings for your Thanksgiving!!”
Howard says that with about two dozen people coming to her home for Thanksgiving, she’s looking to cut down on costs by asking every adult guest to bring a food item.
“OK, look, they have these on sale for $5.99,” Howard said as she picked up a frozen pie. “So I’ll probably get an apple one.”
