New Mexico's health care agency anticipates a program to enroll incarcerated people in Medicaid will go live by next spring, pending final federal approval.

The program, which is being piloted in three prisons, will provide Medicaid-funded care to eligible, incarcerated New Mexicans up to 90 days prior to their release. The goal is to "support individuals leaving incarceration with the health care, support, and services they need to be successful in their communities and avoid recidivism," the Health Care Authority website states , as reentry can bring challenges accessing health care.
