The first rule of politics is the boss takes credit for anything that can be twisted into a positive development.
This is especially true of lame ducks. They can quack up a frenzy in hopes of concocting a legacy. Or they turn to the written word, hoping printed half-truths and distortions will create more favorable remembrances.
Outgoing Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber is the latest to risk a sore arm from patting himself on the back without reason.
"Over the last few months, I've been uncharacteristically quiet," Webber wrote in a letter to what he called his dear friends. "Instead of weighing in on the local elections, I chose to put my head down and focus on the work." Webber said he decided to share "just some of what our team has accomplished in our last 100 days."
