On Wednesday at 1:19 a.m. the National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch valid from Thursday 1 p.m. until Saturday 1 a.m. for Allegany County.

The weather service states, "Heavy lake effect snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 7 inches or more possible in the most persistent lake snows. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph resulting in blowing and drifting snow."

"Travel could be very difficult with snow covered roads and poor visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact Thanksgiving holiday travel," adds the weather service. "Narrow bands of heavy snow could bring rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities. Localized travel problems will be possible."
