BLOOMINGTON — Indiana basketball knew the key to shutting down Kansas State’s offense in was slowing down its leader scorer PJ Haggerty.
The No. 24 Hoosiers (6-0) embraced that challenge in a 86-69 win on Tuesday night at Assembly Hall by holding Haggerty to just 16 points on 7 of 17 shooting. He came into the game leading the country in scoring with 28.0 points per game.
It was the fewest points the senior guard scored in his last 20 games.
“We wanted to do it as a team,” Tayton Conerway said of defending Haggerty. “We wanted to build walls, make sure we got back. We knew they played good in transition so if we could slow them down and make them have to run their sets and make somebody else beat us we knew we would have a good chance.” More: Indiana basketball slows down potent K
