Rachel Reeves won't hike the basic rate of income tax. But other rises are expected to be announced today
Sugar tax. In a move announced yesterday, Irn-Bru could be forced to change its recipe again after it was announced all soft drinks containing 4.5g of sugar per 100ml will be subject to the health levy. Irn-Bru is currently 4.5g.
Online gambling. Profit-hungry bookies are braced for higher taxes on online betting, along with levies on fruit and slot machines. Money raised from this will partly cover the lifting of the two-child benefit cap.
Tax thresholds. Reeves may opt for extending the existing freeze on the income tax thresholds, which, if she also kept national insurance thresholds at their current rate, would raise around £8.3 billion a year for the Exche
