Adding fluoride to drinking water has no negative effect on cognitive ability and may even confer a small cognitive benefit, research has found. 1

The finding comes as the public health practice of adding fluoride to drinking water faces increasing scrutiny in the US and the UK. Robert F Kennedy Jr, the US health secretary, has repeatedly criticised the adding of fluoride to water supplies, calling it “an industrial waste associated with arthritis, bone fractures, bone cancer, IQ loss, neurodevelopmental disorders, and thyroid disease.”
