New York electricity bills have spiked 33% over the past decade on average, outpacing the national average and fueling consumer concerns about continued increases in heating costs this upcoming winter.

The average monthly electric bill in New York stood at $150 in August, up from $113 a decade ago, according to a new USA TODAY analysis of the latest federal data tracking the 12-month rolling average trends. By contrast, the average electricity bills nationally leaped 30% during the same period, reaching $149.

The latest review of federal data comes as officials in New York and other states urge the Trump administration to release federal funding for the energy assistance program that helps millions of low-income families heat their homes.
