The boss of Wetherspoons has issued a warning over the danger potential alcohol duty hikes could have on Britain's pub industry.

Sir Tim Martin, the founder and chairman of 'Spoons, has said he believes pubs would struggle to survive if Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, goes forward with increasing booze tax by 4.5 per cent.

The Chancellor is expected to deliver her Autumn Budget statement later on today from the House of Commons as the public brace themselves for the Government's plans.

Sir Tim told Metro: “Pubs and the hospitality industry bore the brunt of the big tax increases in National Insurance Contributions (NICs) only a few months ago.”
