HOLUALOA — The surfing conditions at Banyans last weekend were less than ideal, as young surfers from all over the island took to the ocean to try to qualify for state and national competitions — as well as representing the Big Island in a team event. The Hawaii Surfing Association’s (HSA) Big Island chapter and the Big Island Boardriders teamed up to host the final youth surfing contest of the year after previous attempts had to be called off due to lack of participants or waves.
