Black Friday deals are already in full swing. So are the porch pirates.

An estimated 186.9 million shoppers across the country are expected to spend more than $1.01 trillion dollars in-store and online Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, according to the National Retail Federation.

That's a lot of packages.

Tennessee ranked 11 in the country for larceny, the statute package theft would fall under, according to a 2024 list from Forbes. Despite that ranking, package theft nationwide declined from 2023 to 2024, according to a Nov. 6 report from Safewise, an advisory group on safety, theft and security trends. Still, the estimated cost of lost packages numbered in the billions.
