WASHINGTON, D.C. (WWSB) - U.S. Rep. Greg Steube is asking the U.S Army Corps of Engineers to support a budget request for $100 million to repair Venice’s South Jetty.
The jetty was heavily damaged in 2024 by hurricanes Helene and Milton. This city-owned concessions building that housed Jetty Jack’s was destroyed by storm surge that also devastated the parking lot, the Jetty walkway, the rock revetment, and the bulkhead along the channel.
The damaged rock revetment and the bulkheads are owned and maintained by the Corps of Engineers.
In a letter to the assistant secretary of the Army, Steube, a Republican from Sarasota, is asking for the funds to be included in the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2026 Work Plan, to restore the Venice Jetty to its pre-storm condition.”
