WASHINGTON —

President Donald Trump is advancing his peace plan for Ukraine and Russia, announcing that top U.S. officials will meet with both countries, though questions remain about the 28-point plan for peace in the region.

Overnight, Trump said the plan has been "fine-tuned" and announced that special envoy Steve Witkoff may meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week in Moscow.

"We're having some talks with Russia. Ukraine is doing well. I think they're pretty happy about it. They'd like to see it end, and we won't know for a little while, but we're making progress," Trump said.

This follows Trump's statement that his team made "tremendous progress" after Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll met with Russian officials to try to stop the fighting.
